Panera Bread Nutrition Facts: Healthy Menu Options
Panera has made some progress in recent years to offer healthier menu choices. They now offer apples or baked chips as a side option, as well as organic yogurt, grilled cheese, or PBJ on whole grain bread for kids. Still, their menu has some really dangerous choices that are loaded with calories, carbs, fat, and sodium. Some of their healthier options are the "You Pick 2" half sandwich and salad/soup combo. Choosing whole grain bread and ditching the cheese and sauces will save you lots of calories on many of Panera's dishes.
• Half Turkey Artichoke on Focaccia: 370 calories, 44g carbs, 13g fat, 3.5g saturated fat, 1170mg sodium • Full Chicken Salad on Whole Grain: 620 calories, 77g carbs, 26g fat, 4.5g saturated fat, 1490mg sodium • Full Mediterranean Veggie on Tomato Basil: 610 calories, 102g carbs, 13g fat, 3g saturated fat, 1450mg sodium • Half Smoked Turkey Breast on Sourdough: 240 calories, 25g carbs, 9g fat, 1.5g saturated fat, 840mg sodium • Low Fat Chicken Noodle Soup (You Pick 2): 100 calories, 2g fat, 0g saturated fat, 1110mg sodium • Low Fat Vegetarian Black Bean Soup (You Pick 2): 110 calories, 2.5g fat, 1g saturated fat, 980mg sodium • Low Fat Garden Vegetable Soup (You Pick 2): 70 calories, .5g fat, 0g saturated fat, 1200mg sodium • Half Classic Café Salad (with Reduced Fat Balsamic dressing): 150 calories, 10g fat, 2g saturated fat, 255mg sodium • Half Strawberry Poppyseed Salad w/ Chicken (with Reduced Sugar Poppyseed dressing): 145 calories, 4.5g fat, 0g saturated fat, 310mg sodium • Half Asian Sesame Chicken Salad (with Reduced Sugar Asian Sesame dressing): 255 calories, 14g fat, 2g saturated fat, 640mg sodium
Bottom Line: If you stick to the “You Pick Two” combos and pick a half sandwiche and soup or salad from the list above, you’re getting a decent balance of protein, carbs, and fat. However, Panera Bread still has some work to do to get rid of the exorbitant amount of calories, fat, and sodium plaguing many of their soups and sandwiches.
